Homecoming court candidates vie for crown

One of Homecoming Weekend’s most anticipated events is the king and queen crowning. During the 2012-13 academic year, ambassadors were selected from each class, but this year the court is comprised of all seniors. The candidates were all nominated by peers and selected by the committee after an interview.

King Candidates

Evan Richard

is studying sociology and pre-law and is a member of the Epsilon Lambda Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. Richard is also the president of the National Pan-Hellenic Council Inc. and is also serving as the student ambassador on the committee to hire a new assistant dean of students. “This distinction has allowed me to be a representation of what being a Bobcat really is on a larger scale than my immediate group of friends of specific community,” Richard said.

Zach Roman

is studying psychology and said that being nominated “has shown that my peers have appreciated the effort and time I have put into Ohio University and that they believe I represent them.” Roman is the president of the Mortar Board National Honor Society and is a campus tour guide.

Christian Bucey

is studying sport management and business pre-law and is the president of the men’s crew team as well as president of the Bobcat Student Orientation Leaders. “I am proud to call myself a Bobcat and feel fortunate enough to have spent my undergraduate days in Athens,” Bucey said.

Joey Buccini

is studying video production and interactive multimedia design. Buccini is a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon and is vice president of external relations on the Ohio University Interfraternity Council. “Getting involved is one of the most important things you can do while in school, and the opportunities I have had are truly once-in-a-lifetime.” Buccini also worked on documentaries shot in Ireland, Malaysia and Maine.

Andrew Faulkner

is studying management information systems and did not return a request for comment by press time.

Queen Candidates

Amanda Hefflinger

is studying journalism and public relations. She is the vice president of the University Program Council. She is also a member of AVW Productions and was previously involved with Lost Flamingo Company and imPRessions. “Being nominated was such an honor,” Hefflinger said. “I’m just really humbled to know that I have the friends that support me enough to nominate me for the position.”

Kelcie Kuchenrither

is studying English and pre-law. “I feel that is a great accomplishment to be able to represent Ohio University and all of the organizations I have been involved with over the years here. Ohio University is truly my home and I have made incredible memories here.” Kuchenrither is also a member of Pi Beta Phi, where she served on the executive board as the vice president of member development. She is currently the executive vice president of the Women’s Panhellenic Association.

Amanda Roden

who is studying Spanish, did not return a request for comment by press time.

Tyla Young

is studying psychology and social work. She is president of the Black Student Union and a member of Alpha Phi Omega. “It’s an honor to be nominated for this court because it has increased my sense of belonging to the OU community. I have found out a lot about myself and what I am capable of these last few years and being a part of court heightens that experience,” Young said.

Brigette Gardner

is studying communication. She is a member of the Fashion Associates. “After becoming involved, my experience changed and I have come to view Ohio University as my home. I am proud to be able to represent the Bobcats,” Gardner said. She is a member of Delta Gamma and is the vice president of Rho Gammas in the Women’s Panhellenic Association.
