Kingsfoil return as part of UPC's Fall Festival

Kingsfoil returned to Athens on Tuesday afternoon; this time however, they were performing amid pumpkin decorations.

The University Program Council held its Fall Festival on Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., on South Beach on South Green, with between 400 and 500 students attending the event, according to UPC President Samantha Caulfield.

The event gave Ohio University students the opportunity to ride in horse drawn wagons, decorate pumpkins, taste fall related foods, play games and win prizes. A performance by the band Kingsfoil highlighted the event, said Nicole Sirpilla, a senior studying organizational communications and a creative event executive for UPC.

This is the second year for the event. It was supposed to be outside last year, but due to rain, UPC was forced to move the event inside.

Even though the event did not turn out as planned last year, Sirpilla liked the event and decided to have it again as well as to expand beyond what was done last year.

“I think that it is a good event and students seemed to enjoy it,” said Sirpilla, referring to the event last year. “I thought that we could bring it back this year and make it even bigger.”

The creative event board partnered with the live entertainment board for the event said Mary Kate Taulbee, a junior studying organizational communications and the vice-chair on the creative events board who worked on the event.

The live entertainment board was responsible for bringing in the band Kingsfoil. The band has been to OU numerous times in recent years, most recently in September when they performed at Jackie O's Pub & Brewery. The band counts former child actor Frankie Muniz as its drummer.

“We decided to bring (Kingsfoil back) because they’re a pretty well-known band for coming to Ohio University,” said Jordyn Humphrey, a junior studying commercial photography and the live entertainment executive chair for UPC. “We thought they’d be a great performer for our event.”

UPC used a variety of methods to promote the event, said Taulbee. Sirpilla and other UPC members tabled outside of Baker University Center on Monday, put posters up around campus, used social media, said Taulbee.

Sirpilla said UPC was pleased with the turn out.

“I saw it was going on and decided to come down,” said Cole Williams, a sophomore studying exercise physiology. “I’ve been having a fun time.”

Humphrey said she was not able to disclose the cost of the event.
