Man harmed in Uptown assault

Amid an upbeat Homecoming weekend, a man was “harmed” in a felonious assault in Athens’ Uptown area Saturday night, according to the Athens Police Department.

A man named James M Allen is listed in the Athens Police log as the victim. The same name is listed as a student at Ohio University on OU’s online directory of students, faculty and staff, but officials were unable to be reached by press time to confirm whether Allen is a student.

The degree of Allen’s injuries was not made public by press time.

The incident occurred after 2 p.m. on North Court Street near West Carpenter Street, according to a police report. The report shows that police spoke to three witnesses and that there are two suspects in the case, but names of the witnesses and suspects have been redacted, as the investigation is ongoing.

Officials at O’Bleness Memorial Hospital were unable to comment on whether Allen was admitted to the hospital last night.

Those who may know more about the case are encouraged to call Athens Police at 740-593-6606.
