Men to strut stuff for sexual assault prevention

Men will teeter a mile down Athens streets in pumps, espadrilles and stilettos as part of the sixth annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes march.

A total of 100 men walked in the march last year, which is designed to raise awareness about the role that men play in preventing sexual assault. Registration is free, and men can borrow high heels to participate.

The men will march onto Court Street on Saturday morning, proceed to East State Street, Union Street, University Terrace and Park Place before ending at Baker University Center. The trek will total one mile. Women cannot participate but are encouraged to volunteer or attend the event.

The march, when it began in 2008, hosted 50 participants, according to a previous article in The Post.

The money from the event, which comes from individual donations and T-shirt sales, will go to benefit the Ohio University Survivor Advocacy Program.

Registration and lending out shoes will begin at 11 a.m. Speeches and the march will take place at noon and end at about 1 p.m., with light refreshments provided by the Women’s Center.
