With its final tournament for the fall season beginning Sunday, Ohio will look to finish the year out on a strong note.
Despite finishing 13th at the Firestone Invitational earlier in October, previous Mid- American Conference player of the week, Peyton White and the Bobcats will seek to start the Cobra Puma Invitational on the right foot.
“We’ve never played on this course,” coach Bob Cooley said. “So we’re just going to go out there and try to play as best as possible.”
The invitational will take place in Fort Myers, Fla. and will be a two-day event, with the first 36 holes on Sunday and the last round on Monday.
The Bobcats will go up against Big East competition including Xavier, Florida Gulf Coast, University of Dayton, Stetson and University of Eastern Kentucky.
Ohio will utilize this final tournament as a benchmark for the offseason.
“There’s always a learning curve to every season,” White said. “We’ve had a lot of positives to our season. We have tons of talent and over the offseason we’re going to try and piece everything together.”
The line-up for the tournament includes White, seniors Phil Giesker and Bradley Lucas, junior Andrew Mlynarski and freshman Ty Herriott.
Each member of the five-man squad has had experience in the line-up this fall season, as Giesker obtained six birdies and an eagle in the Firestone Invitational.
The men have had a few weeks to rest up for the tournament, as the team had a team bonding session just a few days before the tournament.
“We really just got together and set goals for ourselves,” White said. “We want to work harder on maximizing our practice time and practice the best we can be.”
No matter the outcome of the Cobra Puma Invitational, White said he and the rest of the team will practice indoors over the winter on the new indoor fields and indoor putting fields.
“We won’t be able to practice much outside, so we’re just going to try to get together and get in shape for the spring season,” he said.
