There’s a new leader for the Bobcats. Well, sort of.
At the end of the first day of the Cobra Puma Invitational in Fort Myers, Fla., senior Phil Giesker led Ohio with an overall score of 146 strokes, which places him at 14th overall after two rounds of play.
Freshman Peyton White, who has been the Bobcats’ best player for the past two tournaments, has bounced back since placing 33rd after the first round. White currently is tied for 22nd individually after improving his score by firing a round of 72 strokes during the second round Sunday after a first round of 75 strokes.
Although the two have improved their respective scores after two rounds, the Bobcats have fallen in the standings, finishing day one 12th out of 13 teams.
Florida Gulf Coast has dominated the tournament thus far, posting a team score of eight-under-par, as it leads second-place Florida Atlantic in overall strokes, 568-583.
Ohio junior Andrew Mlynarski was the third best golfer for Ohio on Sunday, but he fell from 15th to 29th after going five-over-par and posting a 73-stroke first-round score.
Freshman Ty Herriott and senior Bradley Lucas rounded out day one for the Bobcats, as the duo finished 61st and 62nd out of 75 golfers, respectively.
With this year being their first time participating in the Cobra Puma Invitational, the Bobcats are still adjusting to the Miromar Lakes Golf Course and will look to improve their score Monday during the third and final round.
Ohio coach Bob Cooley was not available for comment at the end of competition Sunday.
