UPDATE: 9:05 p.m.:

OU Spokeswoman Jennifer Krisch said OU had no more information at this time, other than crews are en route to assess the situation. Krisch couldn’t confirm whether the power outage was linked to previous power outages on the Athens campus over the past few days.

The Post reached American Electric Power, which provides power to OU's Athens campus, Monday night but a spokeswoman for AEP could not confirm that crews are on their way to fix the outage.

Dean of Students Jenny Hall-Jones cautioned students to use flashlights or their cell phones — not candles — to illuminate the sudden darkness on campus.

"Go to the places that have power right now. I don't know how quickly it will come back up," Hall-Jones said. "Common sense makes the most sense to me right now."

The power has been flickering, and in some instances completely shut off, for many OU campus buildings including Baker University Center, Alden Library and Scripps Hall.

Power outages have been reported in about half of the campus buildings, according to OU's alerts website.

Crews are en route to restore the problem, according to the site.
