Both Bush Hall and its resident-applicants eagerly await the hall’s reopening for Spring Semester.
Students were given the opportunity to live in Bush, a recently renovated East Green residence hall.
“Since the configuration of which students will live in Bush Hall next year is still undecided, students need to be aware that they might not be able to live in that hall next year,” said Jneanne Hacker, associate director of assignments.
The hall is priced at a renovated rate — $3,114 a semester.
Roommates Alayna Steele and Natalie Pinkelman are currently residents in Washington Hall, but hope to move to Bush in the spring. They said that it would be cool to be the first people to live in the hall after its construction.
“It will affect our housing cost, but not by much. We’d be willing to pay more because the room will be nicer than where we are now,” Steele said.
Students moving into Bush can either move everything in before winter break or check out with their old hall before break and check back in at Bush when arriving back from break. This process will depend highly on the renovation’s timeline.
The reason for this process is to maximize the number of available rooms for new students entering the university next spring and enhance their transition to campus.
Residence halls do not usually have applications, unless they are part of learning communities. Hacker said that students must first be accepted into a learning community and then, if that specific community has a residential component, they can choose to live in the hall associated with that community.
“Students used to select Biddle because it was a renovated hall,” Hacker said, “But they didn’t really have the interest in the substance-free aspect of the hall. This contributed to a negative impact on the community.”
