Council members to discuss purchasing a new firetruck

City leaders are expected to meet Monday night to discuss buying a firetruck and related supplies for the city, nearly two years after approving the purchase of a $1.1 million ladder truck that is being paid for in part by Ohio University.

Athens City Council will convene tonight at City Hall, 8 E. Washington Street, at 7 p.m. to discuss a variety of other ordinances, including revisions toward the 2013 appropriation ordinance — or the city's budget — as the year draws to a close, reducing or eliminating certain unnecessary appropriations.

There is also an ordinance on tonight's agenda related to costs of improvements to take place at the Athens water treatment plant.

Council members are also expected to discuss the demolition of a house on E. State Street, the purchase of softening salts for Athens water treatment plant, and changing the word "handicapped" and "handicapped persons" on public property to "persons with disabilities."
