Ohio Democrats will show support for their presidential pick at Ready For Hillary event

Local supporters of Hillary Rodham Clinton — the former Secretary of State and U.S. Senator from New York — will meet at Baker University Center on Monday for an “organizing meeting” hosted by an organization not affiliated with the former first lady.

Ready for Hillary, a political action committee, will have Seth Bringman, its national communications director, host local supporters at Ohio University and in Athens as part of an effort to jumpstart and stimulate local interest in a potential bid for president from Clinton.

State Sen. Lou Gentile, D-Steubenville, and Rep. Debbie Phillips, D-Athens, are expected to attend. Both Democrats’ districts include parts of Athens County.

Bringman is an Ohio native who served as Ohio Democratic Party Communications Director and was an adviser to Gentile during his 2012 campaign.

“Ready for Hillary is assembling an army of grassroots supporters and sending a message that if she is ready to run for president, we are ready to support her,” the release stated. “We believe Hillary Clinton is the best qualified person to be president in 2016 and that her historic election would build upon the progress of President Obama and continue to lead this country into the future.”

Ready for Hillary boasts more than 1 million supporters and 25,000 grassroots donors, the release said. The event also will mark the first official gathering of Clinton supporters in Southeast Ohio.

The meeting will take place at 6 p.m. Monday in Baker 231.
