Swimming & Diving: Bobcats outswim Buffalo to advance to 2-0

Despite dealing with drama that stemmed from a coaching change last week, Ohio overcame adversity and won its second meet of the season.

With Ohio’s 143-89 win against Buffalo, they steamrolled their way to 2-0 in dual meets and defeated the Bulls for the third-consecutive time.

“I thought (Saturday) went very, very well,” coach Derick Roe said. “We put up some really good times for early on in the season and I’m happy on how it went and I’m looking forward to next week.”

Ohio won nine of the meet’s 13 events and appeared unfazed by the week’s distractions during its home opener.

“I think the team did amazing,” senior Laurin Williams said. “We had our parents here, some of our friends came to support us, so it was a great meet.

Senior Rachel Stearns placed first for the Bobcats with season-best finishes in the 200-yard backstroke with a 2:04.17 finish and the 200-yard individual medley with final time of 2:07.96.

Williams and sophomore Bianca Hauzer placed first and second, respectively, in the 500-yard and 1000-yard freestyles for the second time in as many meets this season.

“I think we both did a really good job,” Williams said.” I know we pushed it more in the 1000 and I know we were hurting on that 500. I think I did pretty well. Our 1000’s were better than last week.”

Senior diver Kristin Capcik also got back on track in the one-meter dive by placing first with a 304.95 score after placing first during the Bobcats’ season-opener against Ball State.

“It’s always great to compete,” Capcik said. “The three meter was pretty good, it improved over last weeks. Some dives they go well, some dives they don’t, but today (the dives) felt good.”

Williams said that the team will work on it’s distance swimming for the Marshall meet Friday and will focus on being positive moving forward in the season.
