The historical tale of the Athens' county Coonskin Library is brought to life, soon to be signed by author Cathy Mowrer

Marietta author Cathy Mowrer is coming to Athens Dec. 10 for a book signing of her newest book, “Young Thomas Ewing and the Coonskin Library.”

Her book provides a description of two prominent events in Athens’ county history.

The tale of one of the most famous businessman and politician from Athens’ county, Thomas Ewing raised funds to stock the Amesville library with funds from “pelt sales.” The tradition of selling the furs and hides of animals is where the library received its most curious name of Coonskin.

Mowrer will be at the Athens County Historical Society and Museum from five to six p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 10.
