University police are investigating after a student witnessed a man stealing property from her dorm

Ohio University Police Department officers responded to a report of a burglary in a South Green dorm Monday morning.

A female Ohio University student reported that someone broke into her Fenzel House dorm room at approximately 5:30 a.m.

In an email, Lt. Tim Ryan said OUPD does not intend to release the name of the victim in the interest of her safety.

OUPD’s police report classifies the burglary as one without force.

OU Residential Housing addressed the burglary in an email to South Green residents Monday.

According to the email, the victim “saw a male standing in her room, leaning over her desk. (He) stole her property from the desk and left the room.”

The police report describes the man as 5-foot-7 to 5-foot-10, thin to average build, reddish beard and wearing a black winter hat and a dark colored hoodie.

He was last seen leaving the building and heading toward the Nelson Garage shortly after the incident.

The case remains under investigation.
