Woman accused of trafficking local teen appointed new attorney

A Glouster woman accused of trafficking a minor and using her as a prostitute in exchange for money and drugs received a court-appointed attorney last Wednesday.

As of Nov. 6, attorney William Biddleston is to represent Aileen Mays, 27, because her original public defender had a conflict of interest.

“(Mays) is an indigent person and in need of legal assistance,” according to court documents.

Mays was indicted Oct. 7 on three counts of compelling prostitution, felonies of the second and third degree, and one count of trafficking in persons, a felony of the first degree.

She is accused of allowing 69-year-old Athens resident Fred Kittle Sr. to have sex with the 16-year-old girl in exchange for money and prescription narcotics.

Although Mays pleaded not guilty at her Oct. 16 arraignment, she “told deputies she had received drugs in exchange for the 16-year old-girl performing sex acts with Kittle,” according to a release from the Athens County Sheriff Pat Kelly’s Office.

She has been incarcerated in the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail on a $350,000 bond since her arraignment, and was also indicted for theft and aggravated possession of drugs, for which she was charged in a separate situation.

Biddleston will represent Mays on all indictments.

Mays is to appear in court for a pretrial hearing Nov. 19 and a jury trial Dec. 3 in the Athens County Common Pleas Court.
