Authorities release photo of suspect linked to Walmart fire

Athens Police released an image, captured from video surveillance, of a suspect believed to be connected to an early morning fire at a local Walmart late last month.

The fire, which occurred during the early morning hours of Nov. 26, was quickly extinguished by members of the Athens Fire Department, who were dispatched at 2:50 a.m. to the Walmart, 929 E. State St. There was moderate damage to the building and extensive damage to merchandise in the area, according to a release from Athens County Crime Solvers Anonymous.

The man shown in the APD photo is believed to be in his early to mid-twenties and approximately 5-foot-10 and 160 pounds. He was last observed leaving the area of the fire just after it was ignited.

Athens County Crime Solvers Anonymous is offering a $2,000 reward for information on the crime if that information leads to the arrest and/or indictment of the person or persons responsible and they can be reached at 740-594-3331.

Those with information are also encouraged to call the Athens Police Department at 740-592-3313.
