Local man, who 'kicked out the rear passenger glass' of police cruiser, takes plea deal

A Chauncy man convicted of domestic violence accepted a plea agreement and was sentenced to six months in prison Tuesday after pleading guilty to two other charges.

Shawn Mayle, 31, was convicted of one count of resisting arrest and one count of vandalism, a second degree misdemeanor and a fifth degree felony, respectively.

In July, the Muskingum County Sheriff asked the Athens County Sheriff Pat Kelly’s office to locate Mayle, who was wanted for arrest for receiving stolen property in Muskingum County, according to a news release from Athens County Prosecutor Keller Blackburn.

“Mayle had a warrant for his arrest for receiving stolen property in Muskingum County,” Blackburn said in the release. “Mayle was handcuffed and placed inside the marked cruiser. Once secured inside the vehicle, Mayle kicked out the rear passenger glass.”

The court ordered Mayle to pay a restitution of $357 to Kelly’s office within one year of his release from prison.

Mayle also changed his plea to guilty of domestic violence, a felony of the fourth degree, in September, according to a previous Post article.

“On May 17, Mayle did strike his wife in the face during an argument,” Athens County Prosecutor Keller Blackburn said a news release form his office. “Mayle was previously convicted of domestic violence in Morgan County.”

Mayle will serve his time in the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail.
