A Nelsonville man received four years in prison with no chance of judicial release Tuesday after crashing his car into a couple’s home.
Patrick Magee, 39, was convicted of one count of aggravated vehicular assault and one count of tampering with evidence, both third-degree felonies, according to a news release from Athens County Prosecutor Keller Blackburn’s office.
He also pleaded guilty to one count of vandalism, a fourth degree felony.
According to court documents, Magee also faced charges of felonious assault and failure to comply with order or signal of a police officer — felonies of the first and their degree respectively.
“A Nelsonville police officer attempted to stop Magee for numerous traffic violations, he failed to stop and a high-speed chase ensued,” Blackburn said in the release. “The chase ended with Magee crashing his car into the residence and causing substantial damage to their home.”
Sheryl Brownlee, executive assistant and spokeswoman for Blackubrn’s office, said the damage cost about $7,000.
Magee was booked into the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail on Sept. 7, according to the jail’s records. He has also been charged with driving under the influence and two counts of assault in the Athens County Municipal Court.
According jail documents, he is held on a bond of $57,000.
