There is a winter weather advisory in effect for Athens County until 1 a.m. Saturday, the National Weather Service reported Friday. The agency predicted Athens and other southeast Ohio counties to expect 1 to 3 inches of snow accumulation through the advisory.
The bulk of the snow will fall Friday afternoon and evening with icy spots on roads and sidewalks — "especially on elevated surfaces, such as bridges and overpasses," the advisory notice from the service states.
Winds at 10 to 15 mph are expected to come from the north with gusts up to 20 m.p.h. Temperatures are expected to drop into the lower 30s.
