Women's Basketball: 'Cats end three-game skid, play second home contest of year

For the first time since its season opener on Nov. 10, Ohio returned to The Convo on Saturday and halted its three-game losing streak.

After entering the break with a seven-point lead, Ohio (4-4) kick-started the second half with an 8-0 run and coasted to a 72-55 victory against Notre Dame College, a Division II opponent.

The matchup was sloppy overall, as Ohio shot just 36 percent from the floor, while Notre Dame College made less than 35 percent of its attempts.

In the holiday spirit, both teams gave the ball away, though the Falcons (5-2) committed much more turnovers than Ohio with a 34-18 margin.

The Bobcats struggled from behind the arc, despite having been successful from downtown this season. Ohio made just eight percent of its three-point attempts in the second half.

Sophomore guard Kiyanna Black led the way for Ohio and buried 20 points. It was the third time this season Black has posted at least 20 points in a contest.

The only other Bobcat to score double digits was freshman forward Lexie Baldwin with 10. points Freshman guards Quiera Lampkins and Yamonie Jenkins each flirted with double digits, but finished the game with nine.

For Notre Dame, redshirt sophomore guard Martha Nagbe scored a game-high 26 points.

Saturday’s matchup was the first time in program history that Notre Dame played a D-I opponent.

As for the Bobcats, they will have some time off and return to action on Friday at Eastern Carolina (8-0).

Ohio will remain on the road for the rest of 2013 and won’t play at The Convo again until Jan. 9 against Miami, which will be the Bobcats’ second game of Mid-American Conference play.
