The Athens Police Department is aware that some residents are receiving solicitation phone calls from fundraising groups that department says are not associated with the Athens Police, according to a Tuesday release from APD.
The groups have been identified as either the “Police Protection Fund” or the “Dublin Police Fund."
A web search of the “Police Protection Fund” should provide ample information for community members to make informed decisions, Pyle said in the release.
Athens County Sheriff Pat Kelly, who took to his facebook page to alert residents that he has confirmed similar calls throughout the county, said anyone who receives one of these calls should report it to the authorities.
