Hoping to expand its name among the Athens crowd, The Over Hang is hosting a different type of musical act than its usual.
DJ Julio will be bringing a mix of popular hits and house music when he performs at 63 N. Court St. on Saturday.
“I am hoping that a lot of people will have a lot of fun so (that) they come back for our upcoming events at The Over Hang,” said Khadar “DJ Julio” Alshaar. “I want everyone to have fun and share the fun. I am looking forward to getting The Over Hang bar name out because it is a really good bar.”
There will be no cover charge, but the show will be 21-plus.
“Everyone here at The Over Hang is very excited about DJ Julio this weekend,” said Mark Meredith, booking agent for The Over Hang. “We decided to host DJ Julio because he has a great reputation within the Athens music and DJ scene.”
Meredith said he hopes that this show is going to allow students to see how much fun The Over Hang can be, and will make them want to come back to their upcoming shows.
“We are trying to do shows geared towards what the students are into and he is a great example of that,” Meredith said. “We hope people come out and have fun this weekend. That's what it's all about anyway, enjoying yourself.”
In addition to DJ Julio, there will be other free events at The Over Hang, including Open Mic Night hosted by Bill Ivan on Jan. 28 and the musical debut of Mella on Jan. 31.
As this will be DJ Julio’s first show at the bar, he said he wants to make the atmosphere just as much fun as it has been in his other shows, if not more.
“I also like (for) my name to get between people and make them remember that they will have fun if they attend one of my parties,” DJ Julio said. “This is my first show there and I am hoping it’s the best.”
