Ohio Representative Lou Gentile, D-Steubenville, was sworn in as Assistant Minority Whip, making him the number four Democrat in the Ohio Senate, Tuesday.
"I am humbled to have been chosen by my colleagues in the Ohio Senate to serve as the Assistant Minority Whip,” Senator Gentile said in a press release. “I look forward to working in a bipartisan fashion to improve Ohio's economy, invest in education and strengthen our local communities.”
Gentile said his top priority will be to strengthen the middle class, he said in the release.
Gentile’s swearing-in makes him the second Southeast Ohio democrat to hold a leadership position at the statehouse. Last summer, Representative Debbie Phillips, D-Albany, was elected as Assistant Minority Leader, making her the number-two democrat in the house last May.
In Gentile’s new position he will assist the Minority Whip in tracking legislation and rallying votes for legislation his party supports, according to the Ohio Senate’s website.
