This year’s 2014 School of Art + Design Faculty Exhibition will feature everything from paintings to graphic design for students to explore in the Kennedy Museum of Art starting Friday.
“As with all our museum exhibitions, Kennedy Museum of Art strives to present artwork that is unique, engaging, stimulating,” said Petra Kralickova, curator at the Kennedy Museum of Art and director of exhibitions in the School of Art. “The biennial faculty exhibition always delivers this and more. Each faculty presents their original creative research and share it with their colleagues, community and students.”
The exhibition will present current art from 29 different artists. The event will kick off with an opening reception Friday from 6-8 p.m., and will continue celebrating and exploring this art until March 16.
“I will be talking about visual storytelling and the universal language of representation in art,” said Art Werger, professor of printmaking and the first presenter on Jan. 23. “I hope that people who hear the talk or see my work become engaged in making their own stories, resolving conflicts and solving problems prompted by the situations depicted in my imagery.”
Although last year’s biennial celebrated the 75th anniversary of the College of Fine Arts by featuring the works of current and retired faculty, this year’s exhibition will be looking at the work of current faculty members. That said, Kralickova promises that this year’s event will be, like always, different from the last and explore new and engaging work from local faculty members.
“I hope our visitors see the high caliber of the School of Art + Design faculty, recognize and appreciate the various use of medium, skill and techniques,” Kralickova said.
In addition, the exhibition will include video, sculptures, photography, prints, drawing and ceramics.
“I plan on talking about some of my recent work and research and how that has segued into the work I created for the Kennedy exhibition,” said Colleen Keough, visiting assistant professor of sculpture + expanded practice and presenter on Feb. 20. “I will talk about my art practice and process and relate that to using technology to create my work.”
