Sen. Portman to tour OU's Innovation Center Friday

U.S. Sen. Rob Portman (R-Ohio) will get a glimpse of the resources Ohio University offers startup companies on his tour of its Innovation Center Friday

afternoon.

Portman will spend about an hour in the center, located at 340 W. State St., starting at 11:15 a.m.

He will meet with some of the center’s 20 clients to “talk about his ideas for pro-growth policies to help small businesses succeed,” according to a news release.

“Washington should be helping Ohio small businesses succeed by creating an environment for job creation, one where our economy can grow and Ohioans can find full-time employment,” Portman said in the release.

The tour is open to press.

The Innovation Center has housed businesses such as

CreMedia

, a video production and website design company; Lightborne Lore, a digital games and animation production studio; and Parabox Studios, a video game development company, according to a previous

article.

“...Ohio businesses are stuck fighting through government roadblocks, including an antiquated and complex tax code and a heavy-handed federal regulatory environment and permitting process,” Portman said.

In fiscal year 2010, the center's clients had a total income of $22 million, according to a previous

report.
