An Athens man changed his plea to guilty of illegally manufacturing methamphetamine Tuesday, landing him in prison for years.
Jeffrey Turner, 45, originally pleaded not guilty at his arraignment Dec. 5 to an indictment charging one count of illegal manufacture of drugs and one count of illegal assembly or possession of chemicals for the manufacture of drugs.
Judge L. Alan Goldsberry sentenced Turner to a mandatory three years in prison. He is also subject to a two-year driver’s license suspension, according to a news release from Athens County Prosecutor Keller Blackburn’s office.
“On Nov. 15, Turner did knowingly manufacture and engage in the ‘one pot shake and bake method’ for the production of a controlled substance, methamphetamine,” Blackburn said in the release. “Also, Turner did knowingly assemble or possess one or more chemicals with the intent to manufacture methamphetamine, a Schedule II drug.”
There are no booking documents entered for Turner at the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail as of approximately 4:00 p.m., Tuesday.
Blackburn was unsure where Turner will be incarcerated, seeing as his office does not handle that.
He said Turner, like any other offender, will be referred to the Correctional Reception Center, in Harrisburg, Ohio, where he will be assessed and placed in a facility based on the severity of his crime and whether he poses a risk to the public.
