Late Tuesday afternoon, Dan Tierney, a spokesman for Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine, confirmed to The Post that DeWine had filed on Tuesday to the Ohio Supreme Court to suspend Athens County Sheriff Pat Kelly from office pending the results of his jury trail in Athens.
Kelly was served a 25-count indictment by a grand jury Friday, when DeWine was in Athens to make the announcement that Kelly was accused of 23 felonies and two misdemeanors.
Kelly, 63, was indicted on:
— 13 counts of theft in office
— four counts of theft
— one count of engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity
— one count of money laundering
— one count of tampering with evidence
— one count of tampering with records
— one count of perjury
— one count of failure to keep cashbook
— one count of obstructing official business
— and one count of dereliction of duty.
