Ohio University held its first Women’s Panhellenic Association Scholarship Banquet to honor women in sororities and fraternities who did well academically.
More than 250 women who maintained at least a 3.5 GPA were honored in Baker Ballroom on Sunday night.
The Women’s Panhellenic Association is the governing council for women involved with OU’s Greek life.
“The women are encouraged to bring other women to show them that working hard for a higher GPA pays off and encourage them to raise their GPA,” said Kate Schroeder, vice president of public relations for the Women’s Panhellenic Association and a previous Post contributor.
Awards were given to the top three underclassmen and top three seniors of each chapter, Schroeder said.
Along with the award, seniors received a gift card to Nordstrom.
“The gift card encourages seniors to begin building their professional wardrobe,” Schroeder said.
More than 1,100 women are involved in Greek life at OU.
“The women gathered at this banquet have separated themselves from the others,” said Ryan Lombardi, vice president for Student Affairs.
The group was served dinner before the ceremony began.
“I think that this banquet encourages women to keep up their GPA,” said Megan Lindsey, a senior studying early childhood education and member of Alpha Gamma Delta. “The Greek experience has helped me create connections with not only my chapter, but with women of other chapters across campus.”
