Alternative rock fans rejoice. Two legends of the genre, Peter Buck of R.E.M. and Alejandro Escovedo of the True Believers will visit Stuart’s Opera House Sunday.
Peter Buck is opening the show and also playing in Escovedo’s band. Buck recently released his second solo album
I Am Back To Blow Your Mind Once Again
while Escovedo will visit material that spans his extensive solo career, extending back to the early 1990s.
“Alejandro Escovedo is an accomplished and acclaimed songwriter and a musicians who has been putting out great music and playing live for decades now and the same can be said for Peter Buck,” said Brian Koscho, marketing director of Stuart’s Opera House, 52 Public Square, Nelsonville.
David Lewis, a friend of Escovedo’s who worked with him in Waterloo Records when he lived in Austin, TX, said he was excited to see both musicians play.
“When I saw Escovedo a couple years ago in Columbus he was doing great,” Lewis said. “He just likes to rock and the last two albums have been louder than anything that he had going on.”
Peter Buck’s set, Lewis said, should be just as anticipated as his friend’s.
Koscho pointed out that on top of Buck’s work with R.E.M. and playing with The Replacements he has also worked alongside Uncle Tupleo and Billy Bragg.
