Singing Men of Ohio may perform live on 'TODAY'

The Singing Men of Ohio’s voices could be transmitted through your televisions as they have a chance to perform on the “TODAY Show” on Thursday during spring break.

SMO left to go on their spring break tour this past Thursday. During the tour they will be performing in Ohio, Boston, New York and Philadelphia.

The ensemble’s “TODAY Show” appearance is supposed to take place March 6 around 8:30 a.m., said Brandon Hunt, a sophomore studying marketing and member of the group.

Joe Brenckle, president of SMO, said while the group would not be in the studio, they could have a chance to perform while on the plaza as the show is going on.

“We’ll be singing at the plaza, but from what we know we’ll be highlighted by the host,” Brenckle said.

Brenckle said the choir would be arriving at 30 Rockefeller Plaza around 6:30 a.m. and would perform in the plaza sometime after 8:30 a.m., when the hosts normally come outside and interact with the crowd.

Hunt said he was excited for the chance to be on the show and give SMO national exposure.

“It’s a really incredible experience,” Hunt said. “(The show) is a great chance for the group to make it well known our new director, Daniel Hall, is trying to push the choir and to make the group (more) well known.”

Both SMO and the Ohio Women’s Ensemble are going on tour during the break. The Women’s Ensemble are headed to North and South Carolina on Friday.

While on tour, both groups will perform older songs learned during the past semester as well as newer compositions that were debuted at a concert Tuesday at First United Methodist Church.

“It’s a really positive experience (to go on tour),” Hunt said. “We consider ourselves to be more of a brotherhood than just a choir. This is our chance where we are away from school, work and we get to perform with each other.”
