For the past six seasons, Ohio has been led by Madison, Wisc., native Ryan Theis, but when the team starts its spring schedule, a new face will be at the helm.
Theis, who is tied for the most wins in program history, has left the program to assume head coaching duties at Marquette.
"Ryan has done a tremendous job during his six seasons. He will be missed," Ohio Director of Athletics Jim Schaus said. "Over the past decade, we have built a national level program and are committed to future success."
Theis accumulated a 144-54 overall record with a 79-17 record in Mid-American Conference play. He is finished his tenure tied with Geoff Carlson (2003-07) most wins in program history.
He also coached two players who received All-American honors and four MAC Players of the Year. His mark of 14-2 (.875) in MAC Tournament matches led the Bobcats to four MAC Tournament Championships.
This past season, Ohio reached the NCAA Tournament for the second time in four years and claimed the Mid-American Conference regular season and tournament titles. Theis also earned the MAC coach of the year honors for the second time, while setter Abby Gilleland received MAC player of the year and setter of the year honors.
Theis, who was not available for comment, guided this this past season's Bobcats to four All-MAC First team selections, which were the program's most since he previously won coach of the year in 2009.
Ohio University has begun a search for a new head coach.
