Student Senate Candidates announced

  • Candidates for this year's Student Senate election were announced today after Ohio University officials took time to verify that they qualified.
  • The deadline to apply was Monday. Official campaigning starts March 24 and students will vote April 17.
  • The following students applied for executive positions on the following tickets:
  • “Action” ticket:
  • Zainab Kandeh for president
  • No vice president
  • Rose Troyer for treasurer
  • “One” ticket:
  • Jordan Ballinger for president
  • Alexandra George for vice president
  • Carter Phillips for treasurer
  • “Restart” ticket:
  • Megan Marzec for president
  • Caitlyn McDaniel for vice president
  • Jolana Watson for treasurer

Baker Peace Conference

  • OU kicked off its two-day, annual Baker Peace conference on Thursday night with Professor Sir Hew Strachan of Oxford University serving as the keynote speaker.
  • The theme of this year’s conference is “The Great War: A Centennial of the First World War," according to a news release.
  • There will be panel discussions from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday in the Walter Hall Rotunda about the outbreak of war and social change.

Oldest fossil evidence of modern snakes found

  • OU scientists found the oldest evidence of modern, venomous snakes, according to a university news release.
  • The fossils are proof that “elapid snakes,” such as the cobras, kraits and and sea snakes were in Africa as early as 25 million years ago, according to the release.
