An unconventional art exhibit will be taking over Central Venue.
AWAKE(N) is an immersive art experience hosted by Post-It, a student organization geared at raising awareness about suicide and mental illness. The event will have more than 30 different performances, including dance, music, poetry, film, live-painting and spoken word. There will also be other works of art on display. Dylan Sams, a Post staff writer, will be playing a song in the show.
“It’s been a vision I’ve had since my junior year of high school,” said Bethany Logan, the president of Post-It and a junior studying dance.
After losing a friend to suicide, Logan was inspired to create this event.
All the performances are based around the celebration of life and overcoming trials. Instead of being on a stage, performers will be in the middle of the audience to interact.
“We want the audience to be moved,” Logan said.
All attendees will receive a small pad of Post-It notes and a pen, which were donated by College Bookstore. They are then urged to write down their thoughts throughout the evening about the performances and pieces. At the end of the event, the notes will be compiled and Logan said she hopes to display them all on a poster in Baker.
“People should expect to be emotionally moved. Be ready to be vulnerable,” Logan said. “Be ready to share a part of yourself.”
