Indecisiveness may be the hallmark of Ohio weather, but the past few days of ups and downs — rain and shine — are only expected to continue for the next few days.
“Springtime, as most folks know, we have large swings in temp even though the calendar says it’s spring,” said Ken Batty, a meteorologist at Charleston, WV National Weather Service. “The cold air that’s been building up in the northern latitude occasionally (moves) south.”
Between Monday’s high and Tuesday’s low, Athens is predicted to see a swing of 50 degrees, according to a Scalia Lab forecast.
Monday is expected to rain on-and-off throughout the day with evening thunderstorms. Between 10:24 a.m. and 11:24 a.m., the Scalia Lab reported 12 strokes of lightning.
And during that swing, the area is expected to see everything from a 90-percent chance of storms tonight with 15-20 mph winds and partly cloudy skies.
The middle of the week is expected to be colder with temperatures reaching to reach 26 degrees Tuesday night and temperatures slowly rising between Wednesday and Friday.
“Back to good old springtime back on Thursday,” Batty said. “Little reminder that …cold air hasn’t disappeared.
Despite the stormy forecast, Batty said those looking to catch the lunar eclipse, which is supposed to be visible after midnight, are not out of hope.
“As of late Monday morning, not real encouraged by what we’re seeing, It looks like there’s gonna be a lot of clouds, front coming in around that time,” he said. “If you’re gonna stay up that late, you have to take that attitude you’ll be lucky to see it through clouds.”
