Jolie Holland returns to Stuart's with new music

Songwriter and performer Jolie Holland will be stopping in to Stuart’s Opera House on Saturday, bringing the sounds of her new album to the stage.

Brian Koscho, marketing director of Stuart’s Opera House, said although Holland has played at the Nelsonville Music Festival and at the House in 2009, she will bring a new depth and variety to her concert on Saturday, and said he is interested to see how her style and songs have progressed.

Koscho said he encourages people to come out and see the show, to listen to the classic sounds that Holland has to offer. Pulling from an array of genres — jazz, blues, soul and rock and roll — Holland melds those together to create her own niche.

“She’s a great songwriter, but also one that takes a lot of chances,” Koscho said. “She’s got a timeless voice. … I think (attendees) are in for a really great show.”

"Her strength I think is in her songs and her performance," Koscho said.

The new album, Wine Dark Sea, released May 20, features Holland playing a wide-array of music

“It’ll be great to see how the new songs will be on stage,” Koscho said.

The concert itself begins at 8 p.m. on Saturday and tickets can be purchased in advance or at the door. The doors will be opening at 7 p.m. for folks to get an opportunity to pick up or buy tickets, from $22 to $30, and enjoy the bar or coffee at the House. Shy Hunters will open the show.

To buy tickets, call Stuart’s Opera House at 740.753.1924 or purchase online at www.stuartsoperahouse.org.
