Ring in the fourth with family friendly activities

Athens plans on ringing impendence through the hills with fireworks, parades and deals around town.

One way people can enjoy the festivities includes the Athens Fabulous Fourth Celebration.

Athens City, Athens Township Trustees and the Lions Club of Athens County are hosting two days of activities from July 3-4.

Free admission to the Athens City Pool, a parade and kids’ games are being offered

Fireworks are also scheduled to go off on Thursday at 10 p.m. on

E.

“There’s tradition involved in (the activities planned),”

Chiki

 said.

“It gives people an opportunity to do something with their families and friends.”

Another way to get patriotic is the 19th annual “Thunder in the Valley” celebration.

Those interested can take

Hocking Valley Scenic Railway

 Railroad Depot

 at 7:30 p.m., 8:30 p.m. and 9:30

. The cost of the shuttle is $4. People can bring their own refreshments to enjoy on Hocking Campus, or vendors will be selling food and drink.

The Nelsonville Area Chamber of Commerce is presenting fireworks that are scheduled to go off at 10 p.m. Friday and will be choreographed to music, simulcast by WXTQ 105.5 FM.

With two days of fireworks, this way,

Chiki

said, people can enjoy them both and get the most of their Fourth of July celebrations.

“(Athens) does (fireworks) on the third, because Nelsonville does it on the fourth, and we want to make sure that people have opportunities to attend both events,”

Chiki

said.
