Women's Golf: On the road to Michigan

After playing in Yorktown, Indiana, earlier this week, Ohio returns to the links this weekend to compete in the Golden Grizzly Invitational in Rochester, Michigan.

Ohio continues to demonstrate its road-warrior mentality this week by competing in two tournaments in a matter of four days.

Monday, the Bobcats competed in the Cardinal Classic in Yorktown, Indiana, and they had a successful weekend by finishing fourth out of 16 teams. Three Bobcats also finished in the top 25, individually.

Sophomore Hailey Hrynewich carded a two-round total of 150, which was six strokes over par. Hrynewich’s score tied her for eighth place and was her second top-10 finish of her career.

Junior Angela Codian, who has already seen success at the Cardinal Classic, finished play with a 153, for nine-over-par, and finished tied for 18th place. Codian has also carded at least one round of 76-or-below in all three of Ohio’s competitions so far.

Freshmen Lily Pendy was the final Bobcat in the top 25 after finishing tied for 22nd with a two-round total of 154 for 10-over-par. Pendy has finished in the top half of the individual field in all tournaments this far.

That was a solid finish for the Bobcats, as the results of their last tournament had them on the bottom of the leaderboards.

Ohio heads to Rochester, Michigan, this weekend to take part in the Golden Grizzly Invitational, hosted by Oakland.

The Golden Grizzly is a two-day, two-round event and will take place at the Katke-Cousins Golf Course, which is located on Oakland’s campus and features a par-72 course with has long fairways with sloped greens. A hilly environment should feel like home for the Bobcats.

The field will consist of seven teams, three of which are Mid-American Conference members, and will feature Bowling Green’s A and B teams, Central Michigan, Detroit, Oakland and Youngstown State. The Bobcats have faced each team at least once this season with the exception of Detroit and Youngstown.

Although the Bobcats had little time in between competitions, the team has momentum from their performance earlier in the week and are heading to a course that is similar to the hills of Athens and look to finish on top of the leaderboard.
