Editorial: New veterans center in Baker a worthy sign of appreciation

The Post reported on Tuesday that Ohio University is taking steps to ensure that military veterans are well supported during their time in Athens.

The university’s most significant goal in this is dedicating a new space for veterans in Baker University Center. The center will be a significant upgrade for the veterans compared to their current location in Chubb Hall.

We think the university’s goals — spurred by the passing of House Bill 488, which sets new standards for supporting student veterans at Ohio’s public universities — are a good idea. Veterans have already served their country, and the least we can do as a university is serve them as best we can.

Outfitting Ohio University’s 262 veterans with a new space in Baker will not only give them a change of scenery, but also increased visibility on campus. More students will likely appreciate veterans’ commitment to our country if they pass their office every day on the way to class.

This sign of appreciation, we think, is a worthy one.
