Police Blotter: Thefts abound last week

No item is of little worth in the eyes of a thief.

From Nov. 3 to Nov. 9, local law enforcement officers were busy responding to theft reports of various items.

The Ohio University Police Department• received a phone complaint Nov. 4 from a woman about her two pairs of blue jeans• that were stolen from the dryer in Gamertsfelder Hall’s laundry area between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. the previous day.

Two days later, the director of OU’s school of visual communication reported the theft of a Canon 5D Mark III camera. The costs of a Canon 5D Mark III, without the lens, is about $3,400, according to B&H Photo Video’s website.

Sometime between Saturday and Monday, a four wheeler was stolen from the maintenance shed at West State Ball Fields. There are no suspects at this time, according to the Athens city police report.

Other reports the theft of a violin, a backpack and a laptop.

Property damaging offenses were also included in police reports. OUPD officers discovered three damaged lights on the bike path Friday morning. Five days prior to the discovery, an Ohio employee had logged a report regarding four damaged lights on the bike path. ThePost was unable to confirm whether the two reports stemmed from the same damaged lights.

On Thursday, a woman logged a report to APD stating an unknown person had thrown a large rock through the rear window of her 2005 Ford Crown Vic car.

OUPD saw 10 drug violations last week. On one occasion, a man was issued a citation for possession of marijuana after an officer discovered drug paraphernalia on a night stand while checking a Brown Hall room on Nov. 4. The officer had been called to Brown Hall after a smoke detector on the third floor had been activated.
