Park Place, Mulberry construction pushed back to late February

Several construction and renovation projects were delayed by the cold weather.

While Ohio University students were off campus for winter break, construction crews continued to repair and renovate buildings across campus.

Here’s an update on several of the larger projects:

West Mulberry Street and Park Place

The main thoroughfare connecting Richland Avenue to the area around College Green is getting closer to completion.

The majority of West Mulberry Street has been completed, allowing vehicles to both park and drive on the road.

The north side of Park Place continues to be closed to traffic.

Officials previously said construction on the road was expected to be completed by mid-January, according to a previous Postreport.

That date has now been pushed to February 28th, said Stephen Wood, executive director of Facilities Management.

“Weather and unforeseen conditions have delayed the projects,” he said.

Boyd Hall

Construction has begun on the dining section of Boyd Hall.

The Hungry Cat, a new food truck on West Green, now sits in front of Boyd to serve students lunch and dinner.

A construction perimeter has been erected around much of the lower level of the hall, but access to a smaller Boyd Market and a reduced Grab N Go option is still available for students.

Tupper and Lindley Halls

Renovations to Tupper and Lindley Halls are set to be complete by April 15th, said Richard Shultz, interim associate vice president for Architecture, Design and Construction.

Because renovations are taking place in the interiors of the buildings, construction was not impacted by winter weather.

Both buildings are within their combined $20.9 million budgets and timelines for completion.

Housing Development Plan: Phase I

January 20 will mark the one-year anniversary of the first wall being erected for the new South Green dorms.

Freshmen coming to OU next year will be able to live in the new dorms, as they will be completed by late June or early July.

Currently, crews are working on connecting the new dorms to campus utilities such as electricity, water and steam.

Scripps, Schoonover and RTV

All projects involving the Scripps College of Communication are on schedule, according to university officials.

The interior of Scripps Hall is being renovated, and new phases of Schoonover are being completed in stages.

Some students have voiced concerns regarding handicap accessibility in the Radio-Television Center due to the dilapidated state of two elevators in the buildings.

“We are trying not to have both elevators out of service at one time,” Shultz said.

The limited accessibility was an unexpected problem which has since been dealt with, he said.
