Bob Boldon, the Ohio University women’s basketball head coach, says, Arizona State is “tremendous on defense, and I really enjoy watching them, until I realize we've got to play them.” Boldon spoke at the NCAA Ohio press conference on March 20, 2015. (LAUREN BACHO | FOR THE POST)

Women's Basketball: Friday shootaround

TEMPE, Arizona — Bob Boldon walked onto the Wells Fargo Arena Court wearing beige shorts and smile on his face.

During Friday’s shootaround, Boldon and No. 14 Ohio didn't seemed overly concerned about No. 3 Arizona State.

"I don't really buy into favorites and stuff like that," junior guard Kiyanna Black said. "At the end of the day, I feel like whatever team comes out ready to compete is the team that's the favorite. So tomorrow my mindset and the team's mindset is just to come out and compete, not worry about seeds or numbers or things of that sort."

After being announced as the 14 seed on Monday, the Bobcats have developed an "underdog" persona after being heavily favored throughout their tour through the Mid-American Conference.

Historically, there's never been a 14-seed to upset a No. 3 seed in the Women's NCAA Tournament.

"I think that from my own personal experience, I enjoy being the underdog more than I enjoy trying to stay on top," senior Mariah Byard said. "I'm excited for tomorrow's game."

Both Ohio and Arizona State have had more than a week off from playing, as Arizona State Charli Turner Thorne commented on how difficult game planning for the Bobcats is.

"I mean, Ohio is very good. In watching them, I'm wondering why they're a 14 seed, to be honest. But they've won 27 games, just like us, so they're a confident team that knows how to win," Thorne said. "They know who they are and they play to their strengths really well."

The Sun Devils previously lost to Stanford in the Pacific-12 Tournament and are led by Sophie Brunner, Katie Hempen and Promise Amukamara.

Tip-off will be at 6:30 (EST) and can be watched on ESPN2.
