New ticket and candidate announced for Student Senate election

A fifth ticket, TIME, and a treasurer candidate for the BARE ticket were announced Tuesday night.

Student Senate’s Board of Elections announced Tuesday night that a new ticket and candidate will be participating in this year’s election, despite the organization’s March 26 deadline.

The ticket, TIME, currently has two candidates: Marquis Maines, who is running for vice president, and Lorne Owens, who is running for treasurer.

Maines is president of the fraternity Epsilon Nu Tau. Owens is currently the Senate Appropriations Commissioner for Student Senate.

It is unclear if more members will be added to the TIME ticket.

The BARE party has also added DJ Amireh as treasurer to their ticket. Amireh is currently a SAC senator in Student Senate.

It is unclear why TIME and Amireh were not announced Monday with the other parties and candidates.

TIME is the fifth ticket to be named eligible for the election.

“I'm not sure if it's the first of its kind but most definitely it's the most amount of tickets in my tenure at Ohio University,” said Board of Elections co-chair, Omar Kurdi.

Maines has three offenses filed with the Athens Municipal Court, one of which is for criminal trespass from August 2013, which was later dismissed.

Amireh was cited for persistent disorderly conduct in January 2015, for which he recently received a suspended 30-day jail sentence. He is able to perform 30 hours of community service within 60 days, pay court costs and remain an upstanding citizen to avoid jail time, according to a previous Post report.
