UPDATE: Tornado warning no longer in effect for Athens, Southeast Ohio

The National Weather Service has placed the Southeast Ohio region, including Athens, under a tornado warning until 5:45 p.m. Thursday. The warning came shortly after 5:00 p.m. There is also a severe thunderstorm warning in effect until the same time.

The National Weather Service also issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 10 p.m. Thursday evening, and a Flash Flood Watch until 11 a.m. April 10.

On top of this, there's also a Flood Warning for small streams in several counties in the area, including Athens County.

Wind gusts are predicted to be as high as 26 mph. 

"Golf ball sized hail was reported with the same thunderstorm that will be hitting athens (sic)," Athens Weather Guru, or @ForecastAthens, said in a tweet.

OU Dean of Students Jenny Hall-Jones tweeted: "I cannot see the Convo from my office in Baker. #GetInside and #StayInside until the storm passes."

According to American Electric Power Ohio's website, 1,429 Athens customers are without power.
