Many on Twitter said it was the wrong call entirely.
It was a bit of a wild one Saturday in Minnesota.
With the Bobcats in the Golden Gophers' territory and just seven seconds remaining on the game clock, kicker Josiah Yazdani was tasked with a 53-yard field goal attempt to send the game into overtime.
But a controversial delay-of-game penalty, coming on the heels of a Minnesota timeout to "ice" Yazdani, helped to eliminate that possibility.
The officiating crew's call left many on Twitter wondering whether it was the right move.
Apparently you can get flagged for attempting a practice field goal right after being iced http://t.co/gS2j8bvOcM https://t.co/bjrqhyDWcK

Miserable, idiotic delay-of-game call to rob #ohiou of the chance at a last second field goal v. Minnesota

"Wait, wait we can't have a MAC team beat Minnesota on its homecoming." "Uhh quick.. just make a rule up." https://t.co/SijAXwRaPs

Big Ten officials made up a rule to hand the game to Minnesota. Embarrassing.

Hoping the ref at least gets Big Ten player of the week with that call

I just thought Ohio deserved a shot at the kick at the end. Had earned that right. Bad call imo. Lots of chances to win/lose that game
