OU ordered to pay man for car damaged by rogue baseball last spring

The windshield got shattered while in a parking lot near Bob Wren Stadium.

Ohio University owes James Knapp $125.

The Millfield, Ohio man filed a complaint in Ohio’s Court of Claims on April 27 alleging his wife’s vehicle was struck by a baseball near Bob Wren Stadium, leaving a crack in the car’s windshield.

When OU police officers responded to the call at about 4:15 p.m. on March 13, they documented a “baseball-shaped crack” in the windshield.

Officers also found a baseball near the car, according to an OUPD report filed with the court.

OU did not dispute the facts filed in court, and according to court documents, indicated the university’s baseball team practiced at the stadium the day of the incident.

The claim was resolved Wednesday in Columbus. OU was stuck for the cost of Knapp’s insurance deductible and court fees.

Knapp’s car was parked in the first row of lot 111 between Bob Wren Stadium and Stocker Center.
