Football: Bobcats pummeled in Bowling Green

Ohio has been eliminated from winning the MAC East.

BOWLING GREEN 62 (7-2, 5-0 MAC)

OHIO 24 (5-4, 2-3 MAC)

In three games, Ohio’s season has gone from one with great expectations to one that’s falling in a bottomless pit.

Despite a 14-14 tie in the second quarter, Ohio was outscored 48-10 the rest of the game en route to Bowling Green’s 62-24 dismantling of the Bobcats late Thursday night.

The loss — Ohio’s fourth consecutive against Bowling Green — reveals more questions and doubts than Thursday’s dismantling could show on the field.

In the first two games in MAC play, the Bobcats outscored opponents 48-15, with the defense not allowing a single touchdown.

In the last three weeks, the team has been out scored 152-55, as injuries on the defensive side continue to pile up as Ohio’s probability to make a bowl goes down.

One more win for the Bobcats in the next three games would tie last year’s win total and secure bowl eligibility.

Even more revealing is Ohio’s dismal November record. Since 2011, the Bobcats are 4-8 when playing in November, which is the tail end of the season and the full depth of MAC play.

The Bobcats host Kent State next Tuesday at Peden Stadium.
