'The Scene Magazine' models strut through Scripps Amphitheater for fashion show

The Scene Magazine, an Ohio University publication, held its first fashion show Friday at Scripps Amphitheater.

Neon purple lights hung from the roof of the Scripps Amphitheater and gave a luminescent silhouette of the models dressed in ancient Egyptian colors of black and gold.

Those colors represented royalty and fit the theme for Ohio University's The Scene Magazine’s first-ever “Queen of Egypt” Halloween Fashion Show.

Nearly 100 OU students and out-of-town guests gathered Friday at the grass lawn of the Scripps Amphitheater to watch members conquer their strut down the stone runway.

The show kicked off with a few songs from DJ Jovzilla and a model walk contest from volunteers of the audience. Afterward, with only one scene, the models danced to a choreographed routine to Frank Ocean’s “Pyramids” and Beyoncé’s rendition of “Back to Black.”

Cierra Boyd, president of the publication, said she was very happy about the turnout, despite the lack of promotion for the event.

“We had a way better turnout … way better than I could have ever imagined,” Boyd said. “I just want to thank everybody who put so much work into this. … The show was awesome.”

Angelique Redd, a junior studying studio art, said the vibe and the clothes were her favorite takeaways from the show.

“I really liked the theme and the atmosphere of the event,” Redd said. “My favorite part was the Frank Ocean scene. … (The models') outfits were really put together, and they all looked really nice.”

Dontay Graham, a junior studying integrated language arts education, said he really enjoyed the concept of the show and how it showed all the different talents from the models.

“I like the concept and the fact that they had choreography and walks,” Graham said. “It showed everyone’s individuality and talents, but also showing a combined effort.”

Graham, who was a model during the audience model walk contest, also said the members did well, even the beginners who were confident enough to own the stage and put “themselves out there.”

Boyd said the publication hasn't released its first issue yet, but the fashion show was just a “sneak peek” into the launch of the publication’s brand.

“I hope the audience got to see all the creative people and creative things we have (at The Scene)," Boyd said. “It’s just a little sneak peek of what’s going to happen for the rest of the year. I’m just ready for people to recognize us on campus and will be glad for people to know who we really are.”
