Read Hall custodial worker Barry Arbaugh reflects on the 25 years he has spent working in the job for Ohio University. The sign in the background was signed and given to him by the 2005-06 Jefferson Hall residents as a gift for his services.

The Weekender: 'Fiesta Latina' to take over Jackie O's Friday; Choral Union to put on free show

If the semester is starting to wear you down, Jackie O's Pub and Brewery is offering something that'll put a little pep in your step this weekend: Latin music. Starting Friday night at 10 p.m., the brewery will become Fiesta Latina — a student-organized event that aims to show people a good time and introduce them to to a wide range of Latin music. Admission is $4 if you're under 21 and $2 if you're older than 21.

Post Modern: Rakhi Panjabi Ihiga only spent one year, 1999 to 2000, at Ohio University as part of an exchange program with Hong Kong Baptist University. Fifteen years later, after getting married and living in Hong Kong, Prague and now Colorado, she still remembers Trina Woods.

Woods has worked at OU since 1992 — the first half of her career in Culinary Services, the second in Resident Custodial Services.

Ihiga worked with Woods in Nelson Dining Hall three mornings per week and said she “dreaded” when Woods wasn’t there because they would often chat while prepping the salad bar.

“Trina kind of became like my mom away from home,” Ihiga, 36, said. “She helped me through a lot that year because it was the first time I was away from home and was so far away and experiencing so many new things, and she was always there to listen and to advise.”

Choral Union: OU's Choral Union, a large choir made up of students, faculty and townspeople, will put on a free performance of "Carmina Burana" this Sunday.

Love Alive: Columbus-based Love Alive will return to Athens this weekend with new music in tow. They'll play at Casa Nueva Friday evening. Admission is $5.

Dancers: Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights four senior dance students will put on performances as part of their graduation requirement. The performance will be in Putnam Hall. You can get in for free with an OU ID, otherwise it'll be $8.
