Football: Ohio leads 17-7 at half in Camellia Bowl

Ohio scored 17 points in 1:11.

MONTGOMERY, Alabama — Ohio was scoreless in the first 28:29.

Ohio scored 17 points in 1:11 to take a 17-7 lead against Appalachian State in the inaugural Raycom Media Camellia Bowl.

How it happened

Appalachian State dominated from the start, forcing Ohio into four consecutive three-and-outs.

But an 18-yard quarterback keeper by JD Sprague set up Ohio’s first scoring drive: a 36-yard field goal by Josiah Yazdani.

The next offensive play for the Mountaineers, Bobcat linebacker Quentin Poling had a 20-yard interception return for a touchdown.

Ohio scored 10 points in eight seconds.

Five plays into the next Appalachian State drive, Ohio forced and recovered a fumble.

Running back A.J. Ouellette eventually took it in to make it 17-7.
