The Bobcats improve to 5-2 on the season.
Midway through the first quarter, Mariah Harris blocked a shot, threw the ball cross-court to Kiyanna Black, who had a no-look pass to Dominique Doseck for a layup.
The sequence not only gave Ohio (5-2) an 11-10 advantage — a lead it would never lose — but ignited the team’s dominance Sunday afternoon in a 91-65 win against Saint Francis (1-6).
After 29 turnovers in Wednesday’s win against Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne, the most under coach Bob Boldon, the Bobcats cleaned up their play, finishing with 14 giveaways.
“Obviously, we focused on (turnovers),” Boldon said. “This number is less embarrassing.”
Yet Sunday afternoon was all about junior forward Quiera Lampkins, who strung together a 21-point, four-rebound performance — her best this season.
Lampkins, who admitted she had a slow start this year, has returned to her consistency of last season, when Ohio made it the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 20 years.
“She’s very, very valuable,” Boldon said after the game. “She just maybe seems more valuable tonight on a night when she get 21 points, four steals and two assists. There’s numbers that go with what she brings us.”
Ohio’s win, it’s fifth of the season, comes in time for a week off during exams before next Sunday at Duquesne.
