Ohio women's basketball team celebrates when one of its teammates scores during the Ohio vs. Wilmington game on Nov. 7, 2015.

Bobcats remain unbeaten in MAC play

Ohio's win Wednesday night reiterates the team's dominance in the Mid-American Conference.

Ohio’s 13-0 run in the third quarter was ultimately the difference in Wednesday’s 71-64 win at Eastern Michigan.

If anything, that run, as well as the win, reiterated that the Bobcats are still the best team in the Mid-American Conference. After all, their 4-0 MAC record keeps them as the only unbeaten team in the conference.

Cha Sweeney, Eastern’s dynamic point guard, entered the game averaging 20 points per contest. The Bobcats held her to nine points, her lowest point total this season.

Meanwhile, junior forward Quiera Lampkins finished with 20 points and six rebounds, adding another strong performance to her potential MAC Player of the Year credentials.

Lampkins, who’s often been the quieter of Ohio’s scoring duo — Lampkins and senior guard Kiyanna Black —averaged 14.4 points per game before Wednesday.

With two MAC East Player of the Week honors already this season, Lampkins has quietly overpowered opponents. That’s not to say Lampkins hasn’t had loud, impressive performances. Rather, often she’s overshadowed by Black’s points’ production.

Regardless, the duo, along with the rest of the team, continue to dominate its conference competition.

Through the first four MAC games, the Bobcats have already beaten two of the three teams in the conference tournament semifinals this past March. Ohio beat Ball State 73-48 on Jan. 6.

But the Bobcats are constantly looking forward.

As great as dwelling on a victory probably is — especially when the team is 12-3 — coach Bob Boldon and his staff will already have their game plan set for Central Michigan on Saturday before they arrive in Athens early Thursday morning.

And that’s the culture of a winning team.
